Stress is draining. The scriptures below can help calm your mind, encourage you and help you refocus. It’s easy for your mind to go to negative thinking when you’re stressed out. It’s very helpful to read these scriptures repeatedly. Say them out loud. Write them down. Post them around your home to keep them in front of you.

As you can see in the photo below, I love to write things down. When I am reading and something I’ve read jumps out at me, that is when I know it’s important enough to write it down!

Scriptures for Stress

The bible is our instruction manual. It’s helpful to read these scriptures for stress to help calm our soul. Some may wonder, what exactly is our soul. It’s your mind, will and emotions.

Here are some of my favorite scriptures.

Philippians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God."

This scripture clearly tells us to not be anxious, instead we should

  • pray
  • petitions is a formal request
  • be thankful…gratitude
  • ask God
Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight."

God will lead us in the right direction. We need to fully and completely trust that He will do what He has promised. Trust is so important!

Exodus 14:14 "The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.

God is with you wherever you go, He will never leave you. He’s with you in good times and tough times. This scripture is so calming just knowing that God is on our side and will fight for us!

Isaiah 41:10 "Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

This verse is similar to the one above that God will be with us wherever we go. He will give us the strength we need in any situation we are facing.

Isaiah 43:2 "When you go through deep waters, I will be with you."

God will be with you through difficult times and deliver you out of them. He will give you strength.

Psalm 94:19 "When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy."

Even though we may have high anxiety God is letting you know He is near. He will take away the anxiety and worry and replace it with joy.

Psalm 55:22 "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken."

Cast your cares~give them to Him. When stress is high sometimes it’s very hard to let go and give your cares to God. This is where trust is important.

Isaiah 40:31 "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

This is one of the verses I spoke out so many times while going through chemotherapy. I was so incredibly weak and I would visualize myself soaring like an eagle. Gaining strength to not just walk but to run!

I hope these scriptures give you hope and strength. There are good books to read as well for helping you get through stressful times in your life.

The author who I have found most helpful with stress is Joyce Meyers. Her books, Battlefield of the Mind and Overload are excellent. They give practical principles from God’s Word to help you manage stress in your life.

Both of these books are available at barnesandnoble.com among other bookstores. Also, her new book, The Answer to Anxiety, will be available in February 2023.

The last thing you need to know about stress.

  • There is nothing we can’t overcome with God. It may take some time. But don’t lose hope.
  • There are people that care & will help you if your stress becomes to much to handle. Don’t be afraid to reach out.
  • These are my favorite scriptures that have helped me when I am stressed and overwhelmed. There are many more, but these are good to start with!
